Current Series

I think I want to get a fancy blog design done! I change way too often!
Our church started a great series 2 weeks ago that has been really great. It is titled Pure Sex. Now before I get censored by the family friendly bloggers, it is about sex the way God designed it, between a man and a woman who are married to one another. Our pastor has done such a great job of addressing this issue in a unique, classy, biblically accurate way. It has caused a lot of conversation within our church due to the fact that we are using the sermons as a guide for discussion in our small groups. Our students are also going along in a series titled, Guard Your Goodies! They are teaching on the pursuit of a pure lifestyle.
Last Sunday he spoke on pornography and it was truly eye opening. One stat he shared that stuck with me was this: The pornongraphy business grosses 57 billion dollars worldwide. Microsoft grosses 37 billion. Wow. We are foolish if we don’t think this is effecting men and women in our churches. I would highly encourage you to listen to these sermons on our website or you can download is on itunes. We also have discussion questions on the web. Just click on the above link.

Kelly, Thanks for sharing this. I read about it previously on Alison’s blog and think it is great. I hope to listen to the few sermons that have already been preached. And I also wanted to let you know that I linked your page on my blog. If that’s not ok, let me know. Hope y’all are doing well!

It is an absolutely horrendous problem! What really makes me angry about pornography is that people view this, and then do awful things to others(children, esp)…because they have been exposed to so much on the internet. It makes it so easy for people to have these secret sins.

The reason we have a filter–to protect ourselves. None are immune or too Holy to mess up…it happens…people should take every precaution to protect themselves.

Can you tell I deplore this stuff???

Churches need to be addressing it and those involved in it need *skilled* Biblical counselors to help them out of it.

Kim- I totally agree. Our church has put links to filters and a wallpaper you can download with the reminder to filter the internet. I am so glad we are addressing it.

It’s a problem that will touch every household in one way or another because of the internet. Our computer is between the kitchen and the living room and the kids are only on it with us in the room, but even researching for a paper can lead to horrific things. Asking the parents of your kids’ friends what kind of access they have to a computer and if it’s filtered is so important. My girls know that they are not allowed to be on the computer at someone elses house but just the thought that their friend may be unsupervised at other times gives me a great indication of how different our parenting styles are.

Hey Kelly, you have a weird link on your profile that says *wish list* and it’s got some potty words on there. I’m sure you don’t know about it, so I just wanted to fill ya in.

    Blessings!

Kim- Thank you so much for telling me about the wishlist link. I had no idea and I am horrified! Thanks for letting me know. It is shocking to me how many kids have a computer in their room or a laptop they can use unsupervised.

This is such a tough problem and prevalent. I work with college students and pronography is a huge issue with them, even the girls. We have done quite a few seminars on our campus.

Thanks for your comment about being from East Tennessee. My mom was born and raised in Knoxville and met at UT. I lived there for a few years until we moved northeast to the Tri-Cities. We still have family there.

Also, I have done the Patriarchs and LOVED it. Righ now, I am doing Living Beyond Yourself on the fruit of the Spirit. I took the quotes from my notes on the video lectures.

I like your new template. Nice and clean looking! I’m thinking about getting some “professional” help with my blog, too.
